Expressing “already” in Thai with “láew”

แล้ว (láew) translates to “already” in English. As in “I did it already”, “he went already”, etc.

The word แล้ว (láew) is used in Thai much more often than the word “already” in English because it’s an easy way to convey something already happened (since Thai relies heavily on context to determine the tense).

This แล้ว (láew) pattern is also used to answer หรือยัง (rĕu yang) questions which mean “did you… yet?” as you will see in the examples below.
