Saying “and” in Thai using “láe”
และ (láe) means “and” in Thai.
In some cases, และ (láe) can be replaced by กับ (gàp) but not all cases.
You can also replace และ (láe) with แล้วก็ (láew gôr).

The more colloquial version to say “and” in Thai is to use กับ (gàp).
In the all example sentences below, you can replace และ (láe) with กับ (gàp).
Structure
⭐️ noun 1 + และ (láe) + noun 2
Important: และ (láe) and กับ (gàp) are interchangeable only when used to connect nouns.
Examples
- ในบ้านมีแค่น้ำและอาหาร nai bâan mee kâe náam láe aa-hăan ➜ In the house there is only water and food.
- ฉันขอกระดาษและปากกา chăn kŏr grà-dàat láe bpàak gaa ➜ May I have paper and a pen?
- เด็กทารกกินแต่น้ำและนมข้นหวานไม่ได้ dèk taa-rók gin dtàe náam láe nom kôn wăan mâi dâai ➜ Babies can't only eat water and condensed milk.
- ฉันอยากเล่นเปียโนและอูคูเลเล่ chăn yàak lên bpiia noh láe oo koo lay-lây ➜ I want to play piano and ukulele.
- ฉันทำงานที่บ้านและที่บริษัท chăn tam ngaan têe bâan láe têe bor-rí-sàt ➜ I work at home and in the company.
- ป้าอยากซื้อบ้านและรถใหม่ปีหน้า bpâa yàak séu bâan láe rót mài bpee nâa ➜ Auntie wants to buy a new house and car next year.

และ (láe) between adjectives/adverbs
Structure

In this case, you can not replace และ (láe) with กับ (gàp).
Examples
- อาหารที่นี่ถูกและดี aa-hăan têe nêe tòok láe dee 👉 you can't use 'gàp' here because it's 2 adjectives ➜ The food here is cheap and good.
- น้ำทะเลเย็นสดชื่นและสะอาด nám tá-lay yen sòt chêun láe sà-àat ➜ The seawater is fresh and clean.
- ขอให้สนุกและปลอดภัย kŏr hâi sà-nùk láe bplòt pai ➜ I hope it's fun and safe.
- เขาทำงานเก่งและเร็ว kăo tam ngaan gèng láe reo 👉 you can't use 'gàp' here because it's 2 adverbs ➜ He works skillfully and quickly.
- เขาเตะบอลแรงและไกล kăo dtè bon raeng láe glai ➜ He kicks he ball strong and far.
